XLUNA OS keeps your desk on your PC

XLUNA OS is a desktop shell with a dock, an App Hub, widgets, a command palette and live wallpapers. It reads what your PC is doing and shows it to you on your own screen. This page sets out what it stores, where, and the two requests it makes over the internet.

1. Overview

XLUNA OS is made by XLUNA, an independent software studio run by Hasnain Butt Akhtar. It applies to XLUNA OS 1.0.0 and later on Windows. The app works without an account and without telemetry.

  • We do not collect personal data.
  • We do not send your system information to any server.
  • We do not run servers for the app.
  • We do not sell, share or monetise any data.

2. Data we do not collect

  • Identity: no name, email, phone number, address, account, sign-in or identifier.
  • Usage or analytics: no telemetry, crash analytics, tracking or advertising code of any kind. Where the app says "telemetry wallpaper", it means the wallpaper showing your own PC's activity on your own screen.
  • Your content: notes, pinned apps, apps you add to the App Hub, clipboard history, imported wallpapers and screen captures are never uploaded.
  • System readings: processor, graphics, memory, network and battery readings, your installed apps (desktop programs and Microsoft Store apps) and your open windows are read only to show them to you. They are never sent anywhere.
  • Location: no GPS or device location. The weather uses the city you choose, not where you are.

3. Data stored on your PC

  • Settings: your glass, ink, wallpaper, widget layout, pinned apps, programs you add to the App Hub, weather city and preferences are saved in the XLUNA OS folder of your local app data.
  • Notes and wallpapers: quick notes and any image or video you import are kept in that same folder. Clipboard history is held in memory only and is gone when the app closes.
  • Screen captures: taken only when you ask, and saved to the XLUNA OS folder in your Pictures library.
  • Error log: a small log of recovered errors in the app folder, to help diagnose problems. It holds no personal content and is never sent.
  • Trial and licence: managed by the Microsoft Store. The app reads it on your PC; we receive nothing.

Uninstalling the app removes its folder. Captures you saved to Pictures stay where you put them.

4. Network and third-party services

XLUNA OS makes exactly two kinds of request over the internet:

  • Microsoft Store licence check, handled by Microsoft, to confirm your trial or purchase.
  • Weather forecast for the city you choose. The city's coordinates, rounded to four decimals, are sent to MET Norway (the Norwegian Meteorological Institute). Nothing else is sent with them.

Settings lists every request made in the current session. No data is sent to XLUNA, and every wallpaper scene is drawn on your PC.

5. Microsoft Store purchase and trial

XLUNA OS is a paid app with a free trial managed by the Microsoft Store. Microsoft handles every payment and transaction. We never see or store your card details or your Microsoft account information. The rating button only opens the Microsoft Store's own rating page, and nothing is offered or withheld in return for a rating.

6. App permissions

  • Full trust desktop app: needed to act as a desktop shell, to list and launch your apps, including Microsoft Store apps, show and switch windows, read hardware counters, control volume and brightness, and lock or sleep the PC when you ask.
  • Windows taskbar: the app hides the Windows taskbar and shows its own dock only after you agree, the first time you run it. Desktop mode, the tray icon and Exit bring the Windows taskbar back, and it returns automatically if the app closes.
  • Start with Windows: off until you turn it on in Settings. It uses the Windows startup task, which you can also switch off in Windows Settings.
  • Internet access: used only for the two requests in section 4.

7. Children

XLUNA OS is a general-purpose desktop utility. It is not directed at children under 13 and does not collect information from anyone.

8. Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the new version will be posted here with a new "last updated" date, and it will keep the same principle: your data stays on your PC.
